Our cakes are quirky, modern & cute. They really are gorgeous, stylish cakes that stand out from the crowd! All designs are kitsch, sleek yet ultra modern & hand made lovingly in Truro, Cornwall.
The comments on our Cupcakes are encouraging (usually “these cakes are amazing!”) Once tasted, you will hopefully agree that our light creamy whipped topping tastes gorgeous in comparison to the usual greasy buttercream.
Nothing beats the taste of a Homemade Cake & each cake and cupcake is baked & created completely from scratch using fresh ingredients, locally sourced where possible.
They are not frozen, defrosted and then delivered.
We use a range of ingredient suppliers, but ethically try and use local, fair trade & free range eggs (from a farm near Truro).
We make every decoration ourselves and do not generally use sprinkles or sweets unless specified (although maltesers are pretty popular).
Our philosophy is be kind to animals and be nice to people. That way you can’t go wrong!
Cakes (except for fresh cream) should be stored in boxes or breathable containers and not in the fridge! Airtight containers and humid rooms i.e with clothes drying nearby may make the decorations ‘sweat’ which make them may sticky or wilt.
The decorations are never made from marzipan.
Not only does the Bakery produce decadent fun designs for Weddings, Civil Ceremonies, Grooms, Parties and Celebrations, we also produce Traditional (and not so traditional) Cakes full of ‘homemade’ pleasure. Try a slice in our in-store cafe.
Tilly Mint Bakery also realises that not everyone can enjoy traditional cakes, so we can accommodate orders for cakes free of gluten, wheat and/or dairy products. There is a minimum order 6 cupcakes for the special diet varieties. Please note, we do not usually keep them in stock & will need to be ordered.
We don’t have a standard collection of designs but do have a range of suggestions which can inspire ideas for your wedding, anniversary, birthday or any other important occasion.
When we meet we can discuss features that may be relevant to the design, for example when designing a wedding cake these may include your venue, the season, the dress, colour scheme, flowers or jewellery. You may desire classic romantic or a humorous design, clean lines, vintage inspired or an extravaganza in Chocolate – we can make your vision a reality!
We have made cakes in the past featuring the bride’s favourite colours and the groom’s favourite football team, a groom model holding a fish or a bride reading her Kindle. Look at the gallery for inspiration, we can always make it possible!
For the cake itself fruit cakes are less in demand these days, however we do make delicious ones if that’s what you are after. Even though most cakes are chocolate or vanilla sponge, remember that the filling gives it that 'plate appeal'; chocolate cake with mini marshmallows, Cornish fudge chunks or fresh raspberries add new taste dimensions as well as looking great.
Cupcakes are a popular choice instead of tiered cakes, generally there would be a small top cake for the cutting ceremony and co-ordinating cupcakes for each guest. These are also ideal for dessert or individual party cakes. One thing about our cupcakes is that they always provide the wow factor! Tilly Mint bakery also supply Cupcake bouquets that may be given as a birthday or a thank you instead of flowers, and they are also make great edible table decorations.
